Class Eligibility

Categories are exclusive to each discipline.  (For example, if eligible, a rider may enter both Newcomer Hunter Division and Novice Dressage division if that rider has no prior experience in over fences classes.)

 

Newcomer:  A competitor in their first season of showing in OESS or equivalent competition in that specific discipline.  Newcomers may not enter Novice or Open classes in same discipline.

 

Novice First Year:  A competitor in their first season of showing Novice in OESS or equivalent competition in that specific discipline.  Novice First Year riders may also enter Open classes but may not enter into “Novice” classes in the same discipline. (E.g. A competitor may not enter both Hunter Novice First year and Hunter Novice Classes)

 

Novice:  A competitor in at least their second season of showing Novice in OESS or equivalent competition in that specific discipline. Novices may also enter Open classes.

 

Open:  All competitors other than Newcomer may enter in the open division.  This includes any coaches or other professionals.

 

 

VERSATILITY STAKES CLASS

A prize will be awarded to the Horse / Rider combination with the most placing points in their respective dressage, hunter and jumper classes.  Riders must declare on their entry form which classes will count towards the Versatility award.   Classes to count:  one dressage test + one hunter equitation over fences class + one jumper equitation. (Ties will be split by the highest dressage score.)  Entry fee of $10.00 must be paid before closing date, add $15 late fee if after closing date.

Pick-A-Test

Pick-A-Test - Any test which can be ridden in a 20x40 ring EXCEPT for Equine-Canada tests.  This class is open to all.  Newcomer riders must choose a walk/trot test so as to not forfeit Newcomer eligibility.  This class is a non-divisional class, so cannot be counted towards division year-end awards, but can count for this Show’s and the OESS Year-End Versatility Award if chosen.  Please indicate on your entry form which test you wish to ride.

OESS Jumper Division A - Maximum spread 2'9"

Power and Speed:  This class comprises two phases run without interruption, the finishing line for Phase 1 being identical with the starting line for the Phase 2.  Phase 1 is a course of between 6 to 9 fences. Phase 2 is over 4 to 6 obstacles.  Competitors penalized in Phase 1 are halted by ringing a bell or blowing a whistle after they have jumped the last obstacle crossing the finish line of Phase 1.  Competitors not penalized in Phase 1 continue the course which ends after crossing the second finish line.  Both phases will be judged Table A, against the clock.  Placing will be according to the penalties and time in Phase 2. Competitors stopped after Phase 1 may only be placed after competitors who have taken part in both phases.  Not stopping upon being blown out after Phase 1 will entail immediate elimination.
